Ghost Controls Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Sunnyvale Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible keypad and intercom repairs in Sunnyvale, with most completed same day at installed prices between $280 and $520 depending on whether the unit is surface-mounted or requires post excavation and conduit work. The part ships with us or arrives by 11 a.m. from our San Jose supplier on days we don’t have the exact series in the van. Most Sunnyvale homeowners figure out something’s wrong when the gate stops responding to the keypad entirely while the remote still works, or when visitors press the intercom button and hear static instead of the chime inside the house.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls keypads and intercoms fall into three product families: the DK-series wireless keypads (DK5, DK7, and the newer DK11 with backlit buttons), the AXWK hardwired premium keypad, and the GHOST INTERCOM line that pairs with their TSS1 or TDS2 operators. The DK-series units are battery-powered and mount to a flat post; the AXWK needs 16-24 VAC at the pedestal and a two-conductor run back to the control board. If you’re not sure which you have, the label is on the back of the keypad housing, visible once you remove two Phillips screws from the face.

We carry both OEM Ghost Controls replacements and the Seco-Larm SK-1011-SDQ equivalent for the DK5/DK7, which matches the frequency and mounting pattern but runs about $40 less in parts cost. The catch is the Seco-Larm won’t sync with Ghost Controls’ newer encrypted rolling-code receivers introduced after 2021. We check the receiver board revision before quoting. For the intercom line, there’s no reliable aftermarket equivalent yet, so we source the GHOST-INT-01 direct. Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Keypad beeps but gate doesn’t move. The keypad is receiving power and transmitting, but the signal isn’t reaching the operator’s receiver board. In Sunnyvale, we see this most often after rain seasons when moisture gets past the gasket and corrodes the antenna connection at the control box, especially on units installed without the recommended drip loop in the low-voltage wiring.
  • Intercom button produces static or no indoor chime. The speaker element has failed or the two-wire path between the pedestal and the house has a break. On older Lakewood Village installs we’ve serviced, rodents had chewed through the low-voltage cable where it crossed a planting bed; the break was invisible until we tone-tested the run.
  • Backlight works, buttons don’t register. The membrane switch layer has cracked from UV exposure. Ghost Controls moved to a more UV-stable membrane in 2019, but units installed before then in south-facing Sunnyvale lots are hitting this failure window now.
  • Gate opens randomly, usually late morning. The keypad is stuck in programming mode from a partial code entry, or the receiver is picking up interference from a neighbor’s new garage door opener on a shared 318 MHz band. We scan the local RF environment before replacing anything.
  • Battery compartment shows white corrosion. The DK-series battery contacts have oxidized from alkaline leakage. We clean the tray and switch the owner to lithium AAs, which handle Sunnyvale’s temperature swings better and don’t leak.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Sunnyvale
DK-series keypad swap (surface mount, existing wiring intact) $280 - $360
AXWK hardwired keypad replacement (includes low-voltage test) $340 - $440
Intercom unit replacement with tone-test of cable run $380 - $520
Post excavation and conduit for new pedestal location Add $180 - $320

The range depends on three things: whether we have the part on the truck (saves a trip charge), what we find when we test the low-voltage path, and whether the existing pedestal is sound or needs re-anchoring. We write the full price on a scope sheet before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. That price includes the part, labor, RF sync and range test, and a photo log of the wiring condition we found. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; the part itself carries the manufacturer’s warranty, which we register for you.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s no high-tension danger here, but there are two ways DIY goes wrong on Ghost Controls keypads. First, the programming sequence for syncing a new DK-series keypad to the receiver requires pressing the operator’s learn button within 30 seconds of a specific keypad button combination, and the timing trips up most owners. Second, if you’re replacing an AXWK and the existing low-voltage run is damaged, splicing without a proper junction box violates Sunnyvale’s electrical code for exterior wet locations.

What you can safely check: verify the keypad has fresh batteries (DK-series), confirm the operator’s receiver antenna isn’t dangling or corroded, and test whether the gate responds to the remote to isolate keypad versus operator. If those checks don’t reveal the problem, the next step is a tone test on the wiring and a scan of the RF environment, both of which need equipment that’s not worth buying for a single repair. Call (669) 900-1904 and we’ll quote the repair in writing before we head out.
