Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Gate arm separation from the post bracket. The operator runs but the gate doesn’t move, or moves erratically. This usually means the original weld at the arm-to-bracket joint has cracked through from cyclic loading, especially common on double-swing gates where the two leaves hit their stops at slightly different times.
• Visible rust streaks below any welded joint. Surface rust is normal; rust bleeding from inside a weld means moisture has penetrated the joint and the weld is hollowing out from the back side. In Sunnyvale’s winter wet season, we’ve seen this accelerate from cosmetic to structural in under eight months.
• Slide gate track popping at the dolly wheel contacts. The gate binds, skips, or requires extra motor force to open. The track welds that hold the U-channel to the gate frame fatigue first at the wheel contact points because that’s where concentrated load meets cantilevered stress.
• Gate sag that can’t be fixed by hinge adjustment. The hinge pins are tight, the bolts are snug, but the gate still drags. The weld between the hinge barrel and the gate frame has likely cracked, allowing the barrel to rotate slightly within the joint. This is a welding repair, not a hinge replacement.
• Operator mounting plate pulling away from the post or pillar. You’ll hear the motor strain and see daylight between the plate and the mounting surface. The original welds held, but the plate itself tore at the bolt holes, or the post concrete has shifted and the plate is now carrying torque it wasn’t designed for.

Where DIY goes wrong is in the welding itself. Gate brackets and track mounts are structural joints under cyclic load. A MIG weld from a hardware-store machine without proper penetration and post-weld cooling will crack again in months, and if the gate is under tension when you weld it, the cooling contraction can pull the alignment off by degrees that don’t show until the operator starts faulting. We also see homeowners grind off a cracked weld without realizing it’s holding the gate at working tension; the gate shifts, and now the geometry is wrong for reassembly.
